At the End of the Land
Penwith Landscape Partnership
Access to Penwith: Supporting the development trails with interpretation, and practical improvements to Rights of Way and Open Access land
Orth Pedn an Wlas or At the End of the Land aims to make the unique heritage of the Penwith Landscape more accessible through improving existing access paths. We aim to positively manage a number of trails that link archaeological sites across the landscape throughout West Penwith, and to provide suitable access to both well-known and lesser-known historic sites and locations.
The project will work with parish councils, landowners, farmers and other stakeholders to resolve access issues and improve the condition and extent of footpaths, bridleways, and paths on open access land. It will support and train volunteers in the maintenance and management access paths, supported by the use of local contractors where necessary.
This project benefits the local community and visitors alike who wish to visit the Penwith landscape. It also supports landowners and occupiers with responsibilities for maintaining rights of way, specific interest groups, local businesses (through promoted links) and local contractors, Cornwall Council, Parish Councils and statutory organisations with responsibilities to maintain access networks.
This project will also develop resources that will encourage the use and appreciation of the trails in conjunction with some of our other projects. More sustainable modes of transport will also be encouraged as a means of accessing the landscape, through walking, cycling, riding, and public transport.
At the End of the Land is being delivered Matt Watts, our Access Officer, working closely with Parish Councils, Cornwall Council and other stakeholders, and with the help of Richie Smith, our Practical Tasks Officer.
